United States General Information:

The Zerbe lab at the UC Davis Department of Plant Biology is recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher, starting as early as October 1st, 2023. Our group integrates functional genomics and metabolomics with plant biochemical and protein structure-function studies to investigate and engineer plant terpenoid-metabolic pathways. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on projects with focus on the discovery of terpenoid-biosynthetic pathways with roles in plant-environment interactions in food and bioenergy crops, as well as the mechanistic analysis and engineering of enzymes relevant for producing terpenoids of industrial value. We seek a talented and highly motivated scientist with a keen interest in investigating and/or engineering plant specialized metabolism. Qualifications & Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
• PhD degree in Plant Science, Biochemistry or related field with no more than one year of postdoctoral training after completion of their Ph.D.
• Demonstrated expertise in genomics/transcriptomics-based gene discovery is essential.
• A strong track record in investigating enzyme functions is required.
• Strong problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills.
• Advanced interpersonal skills with experience working within a team.
• Commitment to cultural diversity, workplace health and safety principles.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Hands-on experience with GC-MS and/or LC-MS techniques is a strong asset.
• Experience in investigating plant terpenoid metabolism is desirable, but not essential.
• Familiarity with the supervision of students and technicians is preferable.

Responsibilities:

Under guidance of the (Principal Investigator PI, Dr. Zerbe), the Postdoctoral Researcher will have the opportunity to and be responsible for conducting innovative, active, and collaborative research, design and evaluate experiments, develop ideas that advance current research projects, and mentor undergraduate/graduate students and staff. The candidate will further be expected to prepare manuscripts, attend and give seminars, and assist with maintaining lab operations.
