Department: Biological Sciences – 21100 Job Category: Faculty Job Summary BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES TENURE TRACK – East Tennessee State University, Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning 15th August 2024. Successful applicants will have a Ph.D. in Life Sciences (e.g. Biology, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, or related field) and a record of research excellence as demonstrated by high-quality publications in cell biology, development biology, or related fields. Postdoctoral experience for this position is required. We are seeking researchers who define and address fundamental areas in cell biology, ranging from biochemical and genetic analysis of complex subcellular processes to organismal processes with cellular foundations. The ideal candidate will address fundamental questions in cell biology using state-of-the-art approaches. The position will complement departmental strengths in evolutionary biology, ecology, genetics, and cell and molecular biology. The successful candidate is expected to build an innovative, nationally recognized, and externally-funded research program, as well as contribute to effectively engaging undergraduate and graduate teaching, and mentoring that supports diversity and inclusion. Candidates will be expected to teach lecture and lab courses in Cell Biology, and Development Biology. Development of an introductory or advanced course in the candidate’s specialty is also expected. The successful applicant will also assist in the development and implementation of strategies for student success and retention in the biology program, and participate in service activities in the department, university, and community. The position is subject to the availability of funds. The Department of Biological Sciences currently comprises thirteen faculty members engaged in a wide range of teaching and research activities. The Department serves approximately 500 majors and 40 M.S. and Ph.D. students. East Tennessee State University enrolls over 12,000 undergraduate students and offers 40 master’s degree programs, 12 doctoral degree programs, and 24 graduate certificates to over 2,300 graduate students. ETSU is located in Johnson City, Tennessee, a city of about 72,624 located in the southern Appalachian Mountains, which is one of the most biodiverse regions in the US. The region has a total population of more than 516,000 and combines a low cost of living with amenities found in larger urban areas.
