United States General Information:

This position is to work on the molecular basis and function of plant defense chemicals in corn/maize against insect pests and pathogens. The goal is to identify genes involved in the production of defense chemicals using metabolite GWAS, generate mutants in corn using approaches such as CRISPR/Cas-9, functionally characterize the mutants using metabolite profiling and bioassays.

Qualifications & Requirements:

A PhD in plant molecular biology, genetics, chemistry or equivalent relevant field
US citizens or permanent residents only

Responsibilities:

Genotyping CRISPR/Cas-9 maize lines and performing maize field genetics
Profiling defense compounds in maize/sweetcorn using GC-MS and LC-MS methods
Performing bioassays with insect pests such as fall armyworm and fungal pathogens such as Fusarium spp.
Experimental design, performance and data analysis.
Writing peer reviewed manuscripts
Presenting findings at meetings
